The Hajj pilgrimage is an annual event attended by nearly two million Muslims from around the world. Pilgrims gather in the Holy City of Mecca, Saudi Arabia. The timing of the pilgrimage changes each year, as it follows the Islamic lunar calendar.

In 2023, the Hajj season took place over ten days in June, a summer month when daytime temperatures regularly exceed 40°C with continuous sunshine. To support pilgrims in coping with the extreme heat and to reduce the risk of heat exhaustion, Mitsubishi Electric Saudi Ltd. (MELSA) provided 5,000 sun-protective umbrellas.

Our Regional Manager in Makkah, Arif Butt, and his colleagues worked closely with the Hajj authorities to distribute the umbrellas across various hotels and residences. The pilgrims who received them expressed great appreciation for this initiative.

The Hajj attracts support from numerous public and private organisations that provide essential supplies to help pilgrims manage the intense crowds and harsh climate. These supplies include drinking water, dates, umbrellas, sun hats, backpacks, and other items that enable pilgrims to complete their journey safely and in comfort.

Mitsubishi Electric Saudi Ltd. is proud to have contributed to this most significant of events, followed closely by Muslims worldwide.
